We Know Mozambique

A slice of paradise…

Anantara Medjumbe Island - couple on loungersEscape the chill of winter and embrace the tropical beauty of an island perfectly perched in the beautiful Quirimbas Archipelago off the northern Mozambique coastline. If it’s an uninhabited island that you’re after, we have just the spot for you… Medjumbe Island.

Following extensive refurbishment, Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort has re-opened its doors to guests in search of their slice of paradise once again. This time featuring refreshed décor, luxury villa upgrades and new signature experiences, including a Robinson Crusoe-style star bed for the ultimate romantic escape.

All of the 12 thatched Beach Pool Villas open on to a soft powdery beach with private splash pools and a built-in Champagne step to sip bubbles while marvelling at the Indian Ocean view.   Anantara Medjumbe Island - villa view

Keep an eye out for the sea turtles which are often spotted trundling up in front of Anantara’s beachfront villas where they come to lay their eggs.

The island and surrounds

The remote setting and assured privacy of Medjumbe Island promises exclusivity. When the tide goes out, a white sandy beach that stretches over a mile becomes visible with intact coral and shells regularly washing up on the shore. This picture-perfect tropical island scene has to be seen to be believed.

Anantara Medjumbe Island - aerial view of villasThe one kilometre long and 300 metre wide Medjumbe Island is surrounded by the waters of the Quirimbas National Park boasting an extraordinary number of untouched coral reefs that attract an abundance of marine life. It’s without a doubt one of the world’s best snorkelling and scuba diving destinations, as well as a first-class sanctuary for dolphin and whale watching boat trips.

For the adventurous at heart

Undiscovered compared to other well-known diving destinations, the underwater adventures here are truly remarkable. Stroll straight from your villa onto the beach to swim or snorkel without distraction or intrusion.

Anantara Medjumbe Island - traditional dhow sailing lesson

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a sailor? The resort’s new dhow sailing boat lesson offers couples a bonding 90-minute experience on the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Guided by a team of three experienced local skippers, you’ll learn how to work the ropes, check for wind direction, control the sail and steer the boat. Aye aye, Captain!
