Mafalala is one of the cultural and political cradles of Mozambique. This three hour tour, offered in English or Portuguese, explains local ethno-cultural differences, tells of famous political leaders, writers, musicians and sporting heroes, while providing a historical perspective of the last 50 years. Stroll around the streets, alleys and markets and you’ll learn about local foods and medicines, enjoy the traditional dance of the Macua people and interact with the local school children. The Mafalala Walking Tour is part of a community development program run by Associacao IVERCA | Turismo, Cultura e Meio-Ambiente that is working on a sustainable and responsible tourism approach to create more jobs for the people in the area, specifically youth and women.
