The Mozambican government has officially launched a new e-Visa and Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) portal, now managed by VFS Global. This system is effective immediately and replaces the previous platform.

If you are traveling to Mozambique soon, here is what you need to know right now.

Travellers now requiring an ETA

The following 29 countries will now need to obtain an ETA electronically: Belgium, Canada, China, Côte d’Ivoire, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.

Requirement: You must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before you travel.

Cost: The fee has increased to approximately $48 per person (previously around $10).

Timing: Applications should be submitted at least 48 hours prior to travel.

Travellers requiring a standard visa

For nationalities not on the ETA list, the process has also changed:

Cost: The e-Visa fee has increased to approximately $190 per person.

Timing: Processing times are estimated at 6 to 9 business days.

Important notes on the application process

The old platform: The previous e-visa platform has been discontinued

Pending applications: If you applied on the old system and haven’t received a decision, do not submit a new application yet. The authorities have stated that updates will be sent to your registered email address.

Documents: You will need to upload your flight confirmation, accommodation booking, and passport details to the new portal.

A Note from Dana Tours

We know this comes as a surprise. We were not given advance notice of these changes or the fee increases. We are currently engaging with the authorities to get clarity on the transition period, especially for guests arriving in the next few days. We are concerned about the impact these sudden cost increases and administrative hurdles will have on our guests, and we are advocating for a smoother process. In the meantime, we are here to help you navigate these new requirements.

Visitors may enter Mozambique without prior notification until further notice. The requirement will be reinstated once the platform is fully restored, and a new announcement will follow.

If you’re planning a visit to Mozambique from one of 29 newly visa-exempt countries (including the UK, USA, Portugal, and others), a new travel requirement has just been introduced that you need to know about.

Effective immediately, travellers from these countries must register online at least 48 hours before departure, even though they are exempt from obtaining a traditional visa.

Important: This requirement does not apply to citizens of Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, or Namibia. If you’re travelling on a passport issued by a SADC country, no pre-registration or entry fee is required under current Mozambican immigration law.

As always, Dana Tours is here to guide you through every step of your journey, whether you’re flying into Maputo for business meetings or heading up the coast on holiday. We’ve summarised everything you need below so your trip can start stress-free.

What’s changed?

Under Decree No. 10/2023 issued by Mozambican immigration authorities:

Travellers from 29 newly visa-exempt countries must now register online prior to arrival

Registration must be completed at least 48 hours before departure

A registration fee of 650 MZN (approx. USD10) applies

Once approved, travellers receive an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), which must be presented at immigration

This process applies whether you’re visiting for tourism or business purposes.

Who must register?

This regulation affects passport holders from 29 specific countries granted visa exemption in May 2023, namely:

Canada

Switzerland

United Arab Emirates

Israel

United States of America

Russia

Japan

Saudi Arabia

Belgium

Denmark

Spain

Norway

Sweden

Netherlands

United Kingdom

South Korea

Ivory Coast

Finland

Indonesia

Ireland

Singapore

Ghana

Senegal

Germany

France

Italy

China

Portugal

Ukraine

Who is NOT affected?

Travellers holding passports from the following 11 SADC member states are completely exempt – no registration required:

Angola

Botswana

Cabo Verde

Eswatini

Malawi

Mauritius

Namibia

South Africa

Tanzania

Zambia

Zimbabwe

If you’re visiting Mozambique on a passport issued by one of these nations for tourism, you do not need a visa or this pre-registration step.

Still unsure? Our team will gladly confirm what applies based on your nationality and itinerary.

How to register if you need to

Visit the official government platform: www.evisa.gov.mz

Fill out the form and upload supporting documents

Pay the MZN 650 registration fee

Receive your ETA via email

Present it digitally or printed upon arrival at border control

Why is this happening?

Mozambique’s National Immigration Service introduced this measure as part of broader efforts to:

Improve national security and border management processes.

Facilitate more efficient travel screening.

Support sustainable growth in tourism and investment sectors.

It’s one extra click, but it helps keep things moving safely once you land here in paradise!

At Dana Tours, we take pride in our remarkable team members who play a pivotal role in making your travel experiences unforgettable. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Samuel Nhumaio, a versatile professional with a deep passion for travel, safety, and the beauty of Mozambique.

Samuel’s roots are as diverse as the Mozambican landscape. Born in Maputo City’s renowned Bairro Polana Caniço B, he hails from the Nguni Tribe (Shanghanas) with a heritage as rich and storied as the brave emperor Ngungunhane. This heritage has undoubtedly influenced his passion for promoting the beauty of Mozambique.

Samuel’s journey with Dana Tours began in 2014 as a tour guide. In August 2023, he assumed the role of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Officer, leveraging his prior experience in the field. He acquired his basic HSE certificate in 2019, building on the expertise gained while working alongside other skilled HSE professionals.

Samuel’s professional path has been diverse. He began as a general administrative assistant in the Telecom HSE department from 1998 to 2005. In 2009, his passion for travel and exploration led him to work as a tour guide and supervisor at Mozambique City Tours until 2011. From 2011 to 2013, he ventured into the HSE department once more, this time at Kudumba Investments, where he served as an HSE assistant and supervisor. In 2022, he took on the role of the main HSE representative at EC3 AFRICA.

Samuel’s journey was inspired by his dream to create a tourism company offering international-standard services that would showcase Mozambique as a premier tourism destination. Dana Tours has become the realization of this dream, and he takes pride in contributing to the promotion of his beautiful homeland.

Samuel’s love for traveling and meeting people from diverse backgrounds led him to undertake training as a tour guide in 2009. Since then, he has had the privilege of introducing people from around the world to Mozambique’s attractions, from its breathtaking landscapes to its vibrant culture and cuisine.

What most people might not know about Samuel is his perfectionist nature. While he recognizes that perfection is an ideal rather than a reality, his attention to detail and commitment to excellence shine through in his work.

One of his top recommendations for travelers in Mozambique is Ponta Mamole. This tranquil location boasts stunning blue beaches and luxury accommodations, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing getaway. For those interested in local culture and history, Samuel suggests exploring the Mafalala neighborhood, a place that represents the diverse ethnic groups of Mozambique and its rich cultural influences.

In Samuel’s eyes, what truly sets Mozambique apart is its fantastic people, breathtaking landscapes, and abundant natural resources. The genuine warmth of the people and the country’s natural beauty create an unforgettable experience.

Looking ahead, Samuel believes that travel will be forever changed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He envisions a future where personal interactions, such as handshakes and shared meals, may become more guarded, but he remains optimistic about the enduring human spirit of exploration.

For Samuel, the office environment at Dana Tours is a source of fascination. The camaraderie and teamwork foster a positive and dynamic workplace.

As you embark on your journey with Dana Tours, be sure to say hello to Samuel Nhumaio, a dedicated and multifaceted team member who is passionate about making your travel experiences exceptional. Stay tuned for more inspiring introductions to our exceptional team members as we continue to share their stories with you!

We are thrilled to introduce you to Cuco, an integral member of our Dana Tours team. With 14 years of valuable experience and a passion for his job, Cuco has been a dedicated part of Dana Tours for an impressive 11 years.

Originally from the vibrant city of Maputo, Cuco is a family man, cherishing his time with his lovely wife and two children. Their bond is a source of joy and motivation for him.

One of the things that Cuco truly enjoys about his job is the opportunity to interact with people from different countries. The diverse interactions and cultural exchanges he experiences on a daily basis bring a sense of fulfillment and excitement to his role.

During his leisure time, Cuco finds relaxation in his favorite hobby, watching soccer. Cheering for his favorite teams and players provides a well-deserved escape from his busy routine.

When it comes to favorite places in Mozambique, Cuco adores Ilha de Mocambique. The island’s vibrant colors in the clothing and buildings, coupled with the warmth of its local people, create an unforgettable and enriching experience.

As a food enthusiast, Cuco’s favorite local dish is “Xiguinha de cacana,” a delicious combination of mandioca and a local vegetable known as cacana.

Guests visiting Mozambique can look forward to experiencing the genuine warmth of the local people, which Cuco believes is a highlight of any trip to the country.

For travelers exploring Mozambique, Cuco recommends indulging in the beauty of the landscapes and immersing themselves in the local culture.

Cuco’s deep gratitude lies in the privilege of working in the tourism industry. The opportunity to be part of creating unforgettable experiences for visitors fills him with pride.

His dream has always been to help people plan their travels, and he finds fulfillment in making these dreams come true for Dana Tours’ clients.

On weekends, Cuco takes on the role of a family chef, cooking delightful meals for his loved ones, a side of him that many people may not know.

The sun, sand, warm beaches, and multicultural people make Mozambique a truly special place for Cuco, and he takes immense pride in showcasing its beauty to visitors.

Looking to the future, Cuco believes that the travel industry will become more digital and require less personal contact, as the pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital tools and technologies.

The fascinating office environment is Cuco’s favorite part of working with Dana Tours, where camaraderie and teamwork create a positive atmosphere.

Beyond his immediate family, Ricardo is a proud husband and father to six children. His love and dedication to his family are evident in the warmth and care he brings to his work.

One of the aspects Ricardo appreciates the most about working at Dana Tours is the strong bond he shares with his colleagues. They respect him, and this mutual admiration fosters a positive and harmonious work environment.

While Ricardo currently resides in Maputo, he was born in Macia-Bilene. This connection to his hometown instills a deep sense of belonging and nostalgia.

When it comes to culinary delights, Ricardo’s taste buds are delighted by traditional Mozambican dishes, with “Xima” (pap), “Chiguinha,” and “cacana” ranking among his favorites.
