Pemba is blessed with a bay unique in size and character. Pemba Bay is one of Africa’s largest bays, and arguably its most beautiful. With a narrow entrance of merely 2.5 kilometers, the body of the bay occupies 375 km2 at an average depth of 24 meters.
The city of Pemba perches above wide sandy beaches, along the stunningly turquoise Indian Ocean. Pemba is the gateway to the Quirimbas Archipelago, northern Mozambique’s compelling national park. Parque Naçional das Quirimbas is a place of combined marine and terrestrial biodiversity that is possibly unequaled in Africa.
