Mozambique means business, and has seen a phenomenal increase in popularity as a MICE destination.
In recent years, there has been a noticeable and growing presence of multinationals and financial institutions within the country. To accommodate this rapid development, infrastructure development has increased exponentially, making Mozambique the perfect destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE).
Last year saw Maputo’s five star Radisson Blu Hotel launch its new residence complex as part of an expansion project. The new complex added 117 serviced apartments to the property as well as additional meeting and events facilities, a restaurant, bar, pool bar and gym.
More recently, Tsogo Sun announced the construction of “StayEasy Maputo”, located just two kilometers from the group’s luxury Southern Sun Maputo Hotel. The hotel is expected to be complete in April 2018 and will have 125 rooms (The existing Southern Sun Hotel has 269 rooms).
A global destination
For South African businesses, Mozambique has always been an attractive MICE destination. More recently however, also European companies have started to recognise the potential of Mozambique for their business meetings and incentives.
Many European countries are looking at financially viable, luxury opportunities for their Meetings and Incentive travel.
Maputo is currently the go-to destination in Mozambique, merely because it is the capital where most of the multinational businesses have set up shop. However, the advantage of Mozambique as a MICE travel destination is that it has so much more to offer.
Perhaps Mozambique’s greatest allure is that it brings a distinctive African flair to any MICE experience, while still offering hotels and conference infrastructure of world-class quality.
The destination also offers leisure activities that are often unparalleled, whether it is post-meeting deep sea fishing, swimming with dolphins or whale sharks, getting involved in community projects or a safari type experience.
Access is another key factor that makes Mozambique an attractive destination for MICE travel. There are direct flights from Johannesburg to Maputo, Vilankulo, Nacala, Nampula, Beira, Tete and Pemba, for example and as demand increases more routes and flights could open up into Mozambique.
Mozambique is a year-round destination offering ideal temperatures and experiences throughout the year. The climate in Mozambique allows the perfect opportunity for business travellers to mix business and leisure from June to October, when although drier, the weather still remains balmy and tropical and allows for great incentive travel beach and safari experiences post conference.
Best of both worlds
The fact that Mozambique shares a border with South Africa, offers even more MICE opportunities for delegates.
Dana Tours is currently offering a special conference package at Pestana Kruger Lodge, offering delegates the opportunity to experience both the Kruger National Park and Mozambique.
